Book Description
Publication Date: August 17, 2013
I Live in Chile. ¡Viva Chile! I am fascinated with, and deeply in love with Chile (encantado & enamorado). That will be the main aim of this book, namely, to share my life in, and my love for, this beautiful country, my beloved Chile. I wish to share her with you, much as one would share a bottle of fine wine with a friend. A glass for you, and a glass for me. ¡Viva Chile! Cheers!
Chile can be intoxicating to the senses, just as the wine is intoxicating if one is not careful. It is wise to experience her slowly, to take your time, again, as with a bottle of fine wine. Your enjoyment of Chile will be increased if you approach your relationship with her in this manner.
Smile at Chile, and she will smile back at you. Walk with Chile, and she will walk with you. Dance with Chile, and she will dance with you. Sing with Chile, and she will sing with you.
Chile has the driest desert in the world (the Atacama) in the north and the coldest region in the world in the south, the Antarctic. In between there are beaches and mountains, vineyards and forests, countryside and sprawling cities. To this, add the traditions and culture of Chile, her cuisine, a hearty South American food, the land itself with her recurring natural disasters, and finally, the people, who never cease to amaze me with their resilience and ability to withstand earthquakes, tsunamis, storms and volcanic eruptions., My amazement borders on the incredulous, even after 12 years living here.
Chile, as I have come to know her, is a mystical place, a magical place, and yet a melancholy kind of place. She is all alone at the end of the world. She is like a beautiful woman at a royal ball, so marvelously dazzling and charming that no one dares approach her, leaving her to be admired from a distance, and to go home alone, again…
So you see, when you are in Chile, there is no need to hurry. It is a place that time has forgotten. And when time has forgotten itself, one day can last forever, or only for a moment. Enjoy the moments that you have in Chile, make them last as long as you need them to last.
Your moments can be magical moments in this beautiful country. Your moments can be unforgettable moments in this beautiful country. Once you are here, whatever happens to you, whatever you do, is like nothing you have ever done or seen before. I know this because, “I live in Chile”. This is my life experience. ¡Viva Chile!
Be purposeful in what you see and do while in Chile. Take the time to feel the sun and the wind and the rain caress your skin. If you do this, you will remember how Chile has made you feel. Then, when the time has come for you to return to your country, you will go happy, and at the same time, feel sadness that you must leave her. Parting can be bittersweet, emotions mixed, yet with memories that will remain vivid for a lifetime…

Will our unsuspecting hero make the right choice? There’s only one way to find out: read this book. I invite you to take a journey in which you will discover some things about yourself that may surprise you! Enjoy the adventure that awaits you in this book!

Thomas Jerome’s #Review on #Goodreads > I Live In #Chile

Thomas Jerome’s Reviews on Goodreads > I Live In Chile

"I Live in Chile" is a book you must read, no matter where you live, no matter what you do. In this book, the author respects the reader who wants to know more about Chile. There is enough first person narrative about the beautiful Chilean landscapes, especially in the South, to satisfy any would be traveler to Chile.
The author admits that he knew "absolutely nothing" about Chile when he first came to Chile. For this reason, a short historical contrast is given of the first two Spanish Conquistadors who came to Chile, Don Diego Almagro and Captain Pedro de Valdivia. Though both men are revered in Chile, it is Valdivia who has had a lasting impact upon Chile.
The Chilean language, Castillian Spanish, is discussed. The author explains its origins, with Antonio de Nebrija in 1492 and his Gramática. Its present day evolution is also given a unique look, in dialogic fashion. Further, the author describes what it was like to come to Chile without knowing any Spanish, and then learn the language through immersion in daily life.
The author discusses the Chilean National Dance, "La Cueca", with two typical Chilean cueca dancers gracing the cover of the book, Bernardo León Vargas and Fabiola del Solar, (the brother in law and sister in law of the author). The author includes his views about food, and describes how to make a delicious Chilean Cazuela.
The author answers the question, "What is Chile like?", from several different perspectives. One, the perspective of a language learner is evident, as well as a language teacher.
The author examines the Chilean from a very close perspective, without actually being a Chilean. He talks about home ownership, how Chileans react to natural disasters, and the overall resilience of the Chilean spirit.
This is the kind of book that no publisher would ever publish, because it does not neatly fit into any one category. The reader will recognize its genre to be, among others: non-fiction, historical fiction, memoir, autobiography, education, language teaching, political, tourism, and romance, as the author's love for Chile, the land and the people, are evident on every page of the book.
As I said, no traditional publisher would ever publish such a book, and without self-publishing, this book would never have seen the light of day. I recommend this book very highly, I give it 5 stars, because no matter what your initial position is when you come to the reading of this book, at the end, after you have finished reading, you will have discovered something about yourself.
Frankly, that is what any book that has its basis in reality, taken from real life, should do, namely, make you feel something, make you realize something about who you are. This book, "I Live In Chile", is a must read, regardless of what genre you usually read. For me, this book is 5 stars, because I am convinced it is right for every reader, there is something here for everyone, something powerful. Again, let me be clear, and repeat myself, this book is five stars...

#Book #Launch #Midnight Tonight: I Live in #Chile

#Book #Launch at #Midnight: ¡Viva Chile! I Live In #Chile (Available On Amazon @ Midnight)

I_Live_In_Chile_Cover_for_Kindle
¡Viva Chile! “I Live In Chile” is expected to be available at midnight tonight! Wow, the book is ready way ahead of schedule. This is a Fiestas Patrias book, a celebration of Chile, her language, her people, her culture, her traditions and her customs.
All of this is told through the story of the protagonists (Gaby my wife, my family and myself), giving me a way to narrow the story to my own personal reality, as I have experienced Chile to be, in reality, over the past 12 years. I have condensed 12 years of my life into 100 pages, selecting the story that I needed to tell, finding some way to include what every person expects from a memoir such as this, while ensuring that I would surprise you, again and again. In spite of this, the story remains a story that could just as easily be your own story.
The most important thing now is to give thanks to everyone who supported me and helped me (in any way) to make this book a reality.
For example, when I asked for help with the book cover, you were there with suggestions, recommendations, and advice. Your help was greatly appreciated. This book is just as much yours as it is mine, it is Our book, WE have written it together…
Fabiola & Bernardo
We discovered that we preferred a book about real people, not just another beautiful landscapes of Chile book. Everybody knows Chile is beautiful, but what about her people? Are the people just as beautiful as Chile the country is? Answer: YES…
My friends, you helped me to understand that this book needed to be, more than anything, a book about people. At the same time, the magnificence of Chile, as a country and as a paradise on Earth (yes, paradise), needed to come into place, to be dealt with, to merge or weave into the overall narrative. I know you will be pleased with the storytelling style I use, a mixed-genre, Chilean style.
It is creative, making use of historical sources, personal narrative, the visual and the audiovisual, taking maximum advantage of the tools available to storytellers nowadays. Visual interpretation, at times, is the only tool needed, and I leave it to you to form your own interpretations, when my voice falls silent…
In Chile, you can not ignore Mother Nature, which has been so abundantly generous to Chile. No matter what it is that you enjoy most, here in Chile, you will find whatever your heart desires.
The common thread through out the book is one of narrative, of experience. There is affection, in fact there is love, in the most unimigainable places, in this book. I leave you to discover these aspects, for what one man has come to cherish and love is a matter of taste. In spite of this, love itself can not be denied, not here, not in this book, which could easily be described as a love story…
But that depends on the way you read this book, my friend…
If you are a teacher of English as a Foreign Language, this book will be interesting for you. If you want to settle down and live the rest of your life in Chile, you must read this book. If you want to travel to Chile and spend a day, a week, a month, a year in Chile, you must read this book. You will find untold stories told here.
If you are a Chilean, this book will surprise you, for it is a tribute to you. You will find on every page, within every line of this book, a homage paid to you, long overdue on my part. To have lived here for twelve years, and not have paid this tribute, this homage to you, would have been unthinkable, no, simply an impossibility.
If you are Chilean, living here in Chile, or anywhere else in the world, this book is all about you. It deserves a permanent place on your bookshelf, in every home in the country. There are many truths told here, undeniable truths that only you will recognize, almost as if written in a secret cultural code between you and I…
One question is answered clearly, and often, in various ways, namely, ¿Como es Chile? What is Chile like? I have answered that question, based on the reality of my daily life here.
Oh, if you are a mathematician, an economist, or simply a head of household, this book will interest you greatly. This is because I explain what is possible to do with a salary of only $60 US dollars per month. I know, in the USA, you can’t even buy much more than a hamburger at MacDonald’s with $60 US Dollars. I know the cost of living is astronomical. Still, I encourage you to read this book. It’s amazing what $60 US Dollars (and a good woman) will do in Chile…
How can you help me launch this book?
I_Live_In_Chile_Cover_for_Kindle
That’s easy. Buy this book. As soon as it is available, buy this book. Don’t wait for payday. The price is right.
From now until the Chilean Fiestas Patrias, the 18th & 19th of September, this book will only cost $3.99 on Amazon Kindle (eBook), and only $9.99 (Paperback). If you are Chilean, that’s only $2000 Chilean pesos, a steal for a book (100 pages) like this on (Kindle). For the Paperback, you pay $5000 Chilean pesos, an incredible price.
So, my friends, I need your help to make this book a success. Buy this book.
Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your co-workers, tell your colleagues, tell a stranger. Pass the word on Facebook, on Twitter, on LinkedIn, to all of your email contacts, tell the world about Chile. Spread the word about this book.
Let’s make this book, “I Live In Chile“, the Book of the Year.

Is there anything else you can do to help make this book the Book of the Year?
Yes, thank you, I’m glad you asked. This book needs to have many 5 star Book Reviews. That’s right, 5 stars***** Write your review and give this book 5 stars.
After you buy this book, Amazon will allow you to write a Book Review. Promote this book. Market this book.
If you enjoy this book as much as I know you are going to (there is humor, laughter, joy, on every page), then I ask you to write a 5 star review for this book.
In your Amazon Book Review:
Write about how much you laughed.
Write about how much you cried.
Write about how the book made you feel.
Write about what the book means to you.
In my case, I have left my heart and soul between the pages, the paragraphs, the sentences, the words, and the individual letters of this book.
You will truly know this, because this book is my life in Chile, and my love for Chile, that I share with you. I am certain, you will recognize that my life is not so much different from yours, regardless of where ever you live, and whatever you do. Some things are just universal and apply to all humanity…
Finally, thank you for your participation, for your help with the book cover, and for your encouragement, dear reader. I am certain this book is one you will come to treasure. It is, above all, a true story, nonfiction, reality based, from beginning to end. Finally, I can proudly say, “I Live In Chile: ¡Viva Chile!”
Best regards,
Thomas

Help Me Launch, “I Live In Chile: ¡Viva Chile!”

“I Live In Chile: ¡Viva Chile!” is in PreLaunch Phase

Book Cover - I Live In Chile
My new book, “I Live In Chile”, is in Prelaunch Phase. As promised, the book is ready, weeks ahead of time, for the Fiestas Patrias Celebration, Chile’s Independence Day Holiday.
Historically, Chile first declared her independence from her colonial master, Spain, on the 18th of September, 1810. That means that Chile is a young nation, especially when compared with the various nations of the old country, Europe, such as Spain, Germany, France, etc.
Yet do not let Chile’s young age fool you. She is as mature as can be expected for a country that was fortuitously placed at the end of the Earth. I remind you, that incredulously, Chile’s borders include the Great Atacama desert, in the North, the driest desert in the world, as well as the Antarctic, one of the coldest regions on Earth, in the South.
In this country, I have lived my life for the past 12 years. In this book, I condense 12 years of life into 100 pages. What stories do I tell? What stories tell themselves? What people do you find in these pages? What places receive special attention?
You must read this book to find out.
I’d like to lift the veil, let you peek into the book, and share the dedication with you:
DEDICATION: I Live In Chile: ¡Viva Chile!
To Chile, her people, her culture, her history, her traditions, and her beauty, which I admire.
I have tried to say much, in few words.
Forgive me if I have said little, in many words.
If a picture said everything, I said nothing.
Some things require no words.
“I Live In Chile”, may be the only words this book really needed, and everything else, is an emotion, a feeling, a sense of joy.
I Live In Chile
¡Viva Chile!
